In Real Estate the term Curb Appeal means the first response, the gut aesthetic response, visitors have upon
seeing a home.
It happens even before the buyer goes through the door, even before they get out of their car, and it is very important.
Seeing Your Home Again for the First Time
Sometimes it’s hard to distance yourself from your own home. The owner sees their home every day and they become are accustomed to it and the familiarity can blind them to how others see their homes. For that reason we at the Judy Lindsay Team recommend that our clients take pictures of their home from different angles (including the rear). Then bring those pictures inside, lay them out on your dining room table and try to see your home for the first time.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- What is my first impression of the property?
- What are the bad features of the property?
- What are the good features of the property?
Write down your answers and now ask yourself: how do I
minimize the bad features and
maximize the good features? While you’re thinking about that you can start with the basics.
The Basics
The following techniques and tactics are simple, cheap and surprisingly effective:
- Clean gutters and windows.
- Put away toys and tools.
- Clean surfaces all around the house.
- Remove weeds wherever they may be
- Mow and rake the lawn.
- Trim any trees or shrubbery.
- Polish fixtures.
One last tip involves the front door. This is where the eye of the visitor is automatically drawn so make sure that the door is in good repair, recently painted (or replaced) and make sure that the fixtures are clean and oiled.
Like the saying goes, you only have one chance to make a first impression so make it count!
